Just got a 94... It shot great after an initial (albeit light) cleaning. First time out I only put a box through it so I could inspect the bore.
In light of this, the tests for a replacement round required a minimum of 12" of penetration of ballistics gel after the bullet passed through various media, the toughest being angled automobile glass. Pretty much any FMJ service load of the day could do this, but the FBI set a "maximum desirable" penetration of 18" to lessen the danger to bystanders from overpenetration and ricochets, which essentially limited the competition to hollow points.
